Welcome to the "Donor Stories" section of the blog!
First off, I would like to take this opportunity to say thanks...to everyone that has signed their organ donor card, donated an organ or selflessly donated the organs of a loved one.
Maybe you are a live donor or maybe you have lost someone you love, but because of the selfless act of that person by signing their organ donation card and by you allowing their organs to be donated, you have brought life to at least one or more people. Actually, a number of people may have been saved through that act. I needed a new liver...and on May 16, 2007 I received one. Without it I would not be here today. Obviously I am very grateful for that selfless act.
Often times on the blog I talk about each of us having a story to tell or a journey that is based on our lives. I have written my story of transplantation for all to view. One of the reasons that I wrote my story is to honour the person, and that persons loved ones, for allowing their organs to be donated. I also think it is important for people to realize that organ transplantation works and that it is very important to sign your organ donor card.
I know that if you have lost a loved one, it has been very tough to walk through the grief and struggles that come with losing someone. But...I also know that because their organs were used to bring new life to others that it has impacted you in someway. I would hope that it has given you some sense of satisfaction to know that those organs were used in a positive way and that your loved one will live on through, quite possibly, a number of people.
Maybe YOU have a story to tell about your loss, donating your loved one's organs and how it has changed not only your life, but those around you as well. There are many people facing similar struggles to what you have been through and may appreciate a new perspective, one that encourages them and helps them to overcome the grief of losing a loved one.
Then there are those who aren't sure about signing their organ donor card or might not realize how their loved one can save lives through organ donation. I don't know who you are or where you are on your journey, but if you are looking for an opportunity to share your story and help encourage & uplift those that are facing similar circumstances, please send me your story.
